Start with what matters.
system
the way different parts work together around something that matters
Whether formalized or informal, we are all working within systems. Some are deliberately designed. Others are inherited, improvised, or simply what has emerged over time.
We begin with a conversation. Our inquiry follows the situation rather than forcing it into a preset framework.
The aim is to see what is actually happening, clarify what matters, and notice where the current arrangement is supporting it—or introducing unnecessary friction.
Those inside the situation bring lived and operational knowledge. An outside perspective can make strengths as well as friction easier to see.
Sometimes what is already working—especially work that has become nearly invisible because it happens so naturally—is the most useful thing to bring into view. Making it visible can change what support or resources are actually needed, and reveal resources that were already present but previously overlooked.
Sometimes the most useful change is simple.
Sometimes the inquiry reveals that the change originally imagined is not actually the thing that matters.
